Camels are not sexy.

not sexyCamels are dependable, strong, tough animals. Apparently, they can go for up to two months without food or water. They carried me in and out of the Sahara without a single complaint. But sexy they are not.

Look. It is mating season for camels right now. The camel handlers do um… neuter the animals (you don’t want to know how) but it doesn’t always take. So when the male camels are looking for a mate, they make this really odd, bubbling sound that can be heard for miles because well, it’s the desert. And there is a lot of spit and saliva happening, just spraying everywhere. But the strangest part is there is this bag with lots of veins that forms outside of the mouth. It’s like a saliva, red, veiny bag of desire. I literally looked away because, gross. #ijudgedacamel. Simply put, camels are not sexy.

I tried the best I could to get the sound… you need to listen closely. More on Morocco soon!

Hey Claire, thank you for sharing the mating habits of camels. I learn something new every time I read your blogs. I’m sure this will come in handy when I play some sort of trivia game someday. 🙂

  4. […] The stars lit up the night like a blanket of white. The quiet was so quiet it was loud… If that makes sense. The colors of the sand changed with the light of the day. It doesn’t feel real. But then you hear the breeze in the trees and it brings you down to Earth again. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up. Oh. One side note. Camels are still not sexy. […]
