Roma!

Roma è molto buona. If Rome were a piece of clothing, it would be a tuxedo. Sure, there may be some holes in the pockets, but overall, the Rome that I experienced is sophisticated and vey hospitable.

Around every corner is a beautiful detail that is easy to take for granted in a city so steeped in history.  Walk on the cobblestone streets into any church and there you will find ceilings filled with gorgeous Catholic imagery. I was immediately transported back to my childhood.

I visited the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, St. Peter Basillica, St, Peter’s Square, Sistine Chapel, The Colosseum and The Arch of Constantine, Roman Forum, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’Angelo and the Bridge of Angels, Sant’Ignazio, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. At the Palazzo, there was a 250 photo exhibition of Robert Doisneau… total love there. Also visited the Mario Parz museum. I had a private tour… all in Italian! Remarkable how much I understood! I also figured out the public transportation system – not that difficult but still felt good!

Quick note on the Sistine Chapel. It’s all the way in the back! And oddly enough, there is this great modern art gallery right before entering into the Sistine Chapel. There are some inspiring works of art but they completely overshadowed by Michelangelo’s masterpiece. It’s like going to an autograph signing with the greatest ball players of all time, but Babe Ruth is at the end, so hurry!

And the coffee. Grazie Roma per il caffe.

On the whole, I loved Rome but it does not seem as edgy to me as Istanbul. Istanbul is a Hugo Boss suit… charming but just not as fancy as a tux.  Okay with me. I prefer a nice suit.

Enjoy the photos!
